Submission requirements: One organized PDF with a cover page that includes photographer name, phone number, email; all photos should be medium sized, clearly labeled JPGs. Portfolios will be judged by Andy Wright, Christy Chaloux, Tim Zimmerman, and Trevor Graves – some of the most skilled veterans of snowboard photography. Submission dates are June 21, 2010 through July 2, 2010. All winners will be announced on July 9, 2010. The top three runner-ups will receive $100 off of their 2010 High Cascade Photo Workshop.

Its that time of year again! When the sun starts to peak out, the rain slows and the snow starts to disappear….well most of the snow. Those of us who live in the great state of Oregon are lucky enough to have the glacier. That’s right, Timberline‘s own summer snowy play zone!
To make the summers up there even more amazing, there is High Cascade Snowboard Camp. A camp strategically nestled in a tiny mountain town a mere 10 min from the glacier; created for the active souls who just don’t want to stop riding even when its 73 and sunny. Every year they collaborate with Snowboard Photo Legend and founder of Nemo, Trevor Graves to form the most amazingly fun and educational snowboard photography class EVER!
This year anyone who comes to the photo camp will be schooled by the photo genius of Mr Andy Wright, Sir Tim Zimmerman, the lovely Christy Chaloux and the tiny wonder Kari Rowe! I have it on good authority that the people behind the class are on a mission to bring in some amazing guest speakers this year…snow photogs from around the world who are at the top of their game. You will leave this class with not only a better knowledge of your camera, and a new mind for business but a whole new network of contacts and riders to kick start your career.

We woke to Mother Nature playing a game with the weather. The mountain was socked in. While we waited for the clouds to lift, Tim Zimmerman instructed the class all about digital workflow, processing and storage. The clouds lifted on High Cascade and we hit the snow. Molly Aguirre, Hanna Teter, Jeremy Jones all hucked for the workshop shooters.

The weather was a little less that helpful today. The campers got on the hill and still managed to come back with a few keepers. Christy Chaloux presented her images from the season and wowed the crew. Tim Zimmerman jumped in at the end of the day and started in on digital workflow.
High Cascade
Now that it’s spring break, my plans to snowboard in the sun are becoming a reality! The thing that comes to mind when snow and sun roll off the tongue in a single sentence… High Cascade Snowboard Camp. If you don’t already know, they have these rad workshops for both photo and video. Plus, you may get a chance to see an exploding RV! This is real! Mr. Mertz and I saw this thing blow up on our way out of govy!
When you enroll for the photo workshop you get an opportunity to work with Trevor Graves, Tim Zimmerman, Christy Chaloux, Andy Wright and Nick Hamilton, Transworld’s photo editior. There always ends up being a few surprise guests, as well. These guys help you figure out what gear to use, composition, angles, digital workflow, the business side of photography, as well as networking with riders in the industry. Basically, there’s not much they miss as far as setting you up for success. Not to mention, you get a private night shoot where they not only feed you, they assist you in experimenting with strobe flashes (to be lugged around the hill by yours truly). Check it out for yourself. If you can’t make it this year I’m sure I’ll see you next year!

Cheesy headline aside, Zimmerman is legit. You can find him traveling almost non-stop for a better part of the year, making some of the most amazing images to hit the pages of many snowboard publications. Let’s take a minute to see whats going on in his head…
When did you begin shooting photos?My first experience with a camera was around 15 years old. I tried to shoot pictures of my friends skateboarding with my mother’s Canon AE-1. My dad was pissed that she let me use it. I didn’t get serious about it until ’97. Hell, I’m not sure if I’m even serious about it now.
