One of the crazies and most insalely action packed, fun shoots we have done in a while was for the new mastercraft catalog. Which of course could not have been as visually appealing as it is without the magic trigger finger of the wonderful Josh Letchworth. Thanks to everyone who helped make this idea come to life. It looks amazing. Check out more images at Josh’s website.
We can easily say Sarah Burke was one of the sweetest, down to earth, chill girls we have met in the industry. Spending days on end shooting with her was a pleasure indeed. It makes our stomach’s turn and our hearts drop to think that a woman that amazing and talented has been taken from us so early in life. You can read more about her injuries and what caused her death at USA Today Sports.
You will always be remembered Sarah!
Much love and our warmest feelings go out to her family.
You can go to the give forward site where you can make a donation to help Sarah’s family pay for the medical care she received over the past couple weeks.
Damn girl! Cute, sweet and ripping. You have it all in our book!
Keep up the amazing riding in 2012!
Just as we begin posting the uplifting story of Kevin’s recovery from his serious injury 2 years ago. Sarah Burke sustains a serious head injury at the same half pipe location, while also training for the Olympics. Our well wishes are with the beautiful young star and her family. You can read more about her injury at powdermag.
I have to say that alot of the shoots we produce end up in our design department and i dont end up seeing the final results until they are in print of online. Its kind of exciting that way. To wait and see how our vision in the photo department corresponds with their design needs.
A recent example is the nike vision website. GO BOYS! Nice job with the shoot. The images look almost just as we directed and produced. We love it when that happens.
For all you shredders out there that think helmets aren’t cool….you might change your mind after this.
Thats right, HCSC’s very own russian photo camper Kolya Tsarev has been nominated for Russian Snowboard Awards as a “photographer of the year”!
Congratulations Kolya, keep it up!
Were so proud!
Seriously crazy riding on Travis’ part, conan cracks us up!
That is right, the man has made history. Today, Kelly Slater earned a record 11th Association of Surfing Professionals world title at the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Search in San Francisco.
The NZ winter games were awesome….not that i was there, but rather watching from the darkness of my desk.
Aussies killed it again! They dominated the snowboard cross, in both mens and womens, although here in the states we seem to pass over that aspect of the sport and hail all those park/back country riders out there. However, after having worked with these guys i have a new found respect for their talent, drive and attitudes. Here’s a shout out to the rider who slayed the mens snowboard cross competition, Alex Chumpy Pullin! And to the skier who took second in the Freeski Slopestyle, Jossi Wells. Congrats guys!
Looks like the second session of Mt Hood’s HCSC rocked! Only a few more sessions to go till photo camp.
So true, so awesome. Check it out.
You know how they say, “behind every great man is a great woman”? Something similar can be said about skateboarders only it would go something like this: behind every great skateboarder is a great photographer and/or Filmer. If a trick were to happen and no one were there to photograph or film it in order for you to see it, did it really happen? You ever heard that other cliche, “I’ll believe it when I see it”? I think a skateboarder made that up. Think about everything you’ve seen and were inspired by in skateboarding and I’ll bet you most of it has been through the invention of photography or filmmaking. Throughout the evolution of skateboarding there has always been the photographer and/or filmer right there by the skateboarders side ensuring that whatever happened it would be documented for the world to see. This segment is as simple as it sounds. Shoot All Skaters with legendary photographer J. Grant Brittain. Enjoy. — sb
PHOTO NERDS UNITE!
If you open up the latest issue of GQ, you’ll see lots of metro dude stuff. But you also may find X-Games champ and lunatic extraordinaire Travis Pastrana gracing the pages in some damn fine suits. Travis rallied around the streets of downtown LA with photographer Peggy Sirota for the fashion piece on the summer’s “daredevil-ish” looks. Always fun/weird to see one of our own action sports athletes get all dressed up like a 9-5’er.
If you wanna be styled-out like Travis, the full article is here.
People can get pretty defensive in the argument of women vs men in sports, but let me assure you, women’s surfing has come a long way. Nike 6.0’s team of female surfers are not only showing up most of the boys, but they seem to be completely re-writing the present and future of women’s surfing. Here at Nemo, we’ve been traveling with, photographing, art directing and supporting most of these girls since the start of 6.0- Kari Rowe was recently down in Mex with Monyca Byrne-Wickey shooting for Sweet Cheeks (big sale at Roozt.com right now!)- and we couldn’t be prouder of the release of their new flick, Leave A Message. Featuring Malia, Lakey, Monyca, Carissa, Coco, and Laura, 6.0’s first legit surf film premieres May 19 in Los Angeles, and will be available for download May 24!
Ad Agency Fred & Farid recently teamed up with photographer Cass Bird for a wild new set of ads for Wrangler jeans. Using professional stunt men (and women), scenes of people crashing though windows, blasted by explosions, and generally beaten and bruised were used to encapsulate the “We Are Animals” campaign. Looks pretty damn fun to me!
More info on the shoot, along with a rad little BTS video, can be found here.
Clark Little has been gaining a lot of media attention recently (today show, early show, etc) for his photography. Probably because unlike other human beings, he loves to get owned by big waves. Check out this video (and another explaining his methods after the jump) of Clark getting shots in heaving hawaiian shorebreak. (via fstoppers.com)
The next think thank video begins the day after the premier of the current years. With their constant creativity, interesting mix of riders and new innovative riding how can you not be stoked the day the trailer for their new video hits the interweb.
Up and running… at Studio Nemo we’ve been working with Bell and Giro on their Kid’s Onestep Fit System helmets. They are a cinch for kids little fingers as you will see…
What a fun shoot. Still photography is next!
Nike just released the official Tunnel Jam video! Don’t know much about this project other than they spent six weeks building this amazing set up in an abandoned tunnel. This video is sick! Some amazing combo tricks, huge transfers and a broken bike frame! Check out the video here at Defgrip!
Our beloved skate and snow shop Exit Real World puts 16 candles on their cake this month! Yes it seems only yesterday i was spending my saturdays loitering at the Salem Exit, pestering Missy and Brad to put on another skate video, while i contemplated spending my hard earned allowance on some new abec 3 Lucky’s… those were the days. So don’t miss the birthday bash, happening at all three Exit locations this month!
Nemo’s one and only Team Meat Omen gears up for another Hood To Coast relay. Sweat, blood, tears… and thats just getting the car decorated. Good luck guys and gals!
