Kodak To Retire Kodachrome

ROCHESTER, N.Y.–Eastman Kodak Company announced today that it will retire KODACHROME Color Film this year, concluding its 74-year run as a photography icon.

Almost in a poetic way, the end of Kodachrome seals the fate for film. Yea, its true E6 is still out there and there are craftsmen that embrace the art. However, the 500 lbs gorilla in the room is DIGITAL. Even the best chrome to be published needs to be digitized and subject to the limitation perceived by the medium.

Back in the day if you were shooting something you wanted to save forever, Kodachrome was the only way to shoot.

As this chapter/ era comes to a close, Kodak has set up a nice tribute to KODACHROME Film with the work from Eric Meola and Peter Guttman.
